WGM Group was selected by the Montana Department of Transportation in 2005 to design the reconstruction of the US Highway 93 Whitefish West corridor. The Whitefish West project area begins on Second Street just west of Baker Avenue and follows US Highway 93 to approximately ½ mile west of Twin Bridges Road (Hwy 424) at milepost 133.
The current design work on the US Highway 93 Whitefish West project includes: incorporating medians, turn lanes, bike lanes, and sidewalks; replacing the Second Street bridge; and adding a west entry concept at State Park Road. The design provides improved traffic safety and capacity, while striving to be compatible with the character of Whitefish.
The project also included an Environmental Re-evaluation of the 1994 Somers to Whitefish Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS). The Re-evaluation assessed whether the FEIS is still valid, up-to-date and complete.
